Port de Pollensa

SAILING IN ONE OF THE MOST CHARMING PLACES OF THE ISLAND

Port de Pollensa is located in the northern part of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Port de Pollensa is located in the northern part of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

U Port, as the people of Pollensa call it, is the main coastal nucleus of the municipality of Pollensa and still conserves a calm and relaxed holiday atmosphere in spite of the strong growth of recent years.

Just strolling around the port and yacht club itself is an excursion and an experience in itself.  Numerous famous people and artists have chosen U Port to seek inspiration, writers such as Agatha Christie in her novel "Trouble in Pollensa", the local poet Miquel Costa i Llobera with his poem "Lo pi de Formentor", painters such as Anglada Camarasa and a long etcetera are examples of this.

The privileged location of the port of Pollensa allows you to reach a multitude of paradisiacal coves and beaches, so close that a boat without a licence can allow anyone without a licence to visit and enjoy one of the most incredible areas of the island.

Cala Ciuró, Torrent des caló, the famous beach of Formentor, Cala Murta and Cala en Gossalba are wonderful examples of incredible places within reach of anyone without a licence who wants to feel like a skipper for a day by renting a boat without a licence in Pollensa and enjoy one of the most wonderful and unspoilt areas of the whole Mediterranean.

Cala en Gossalba

CALA EN GOSSALBA

Cala en Gossalba is located between Cala Murta, les Butzes and Morro del Pont (excellent panoramic views), as well as under the gaze of Puig de les Butzes (162 metres high).

It is a marvellous, beautiful, virgin and paradisiacal cove of small size, and gives rise to two small coves as it touches the mainland and is surrounded by high mountains and pine trees.

It is an ideal place for anchoring small boats as well as for snorkelling and scuba diving, as the marine and underwater conditions are ideal for these activities.  The best area for snorkelling or scuba diving is the area of Morro des Pont, where you can do a round trip, skirting the rock walls at different depths. On this underwater excursion you will be able to see numerous autochthonous species, especially moray eels.

There is very little influx of bathers, the ideal access is by renting a boat without a licence to get close to the ideal areas for snorkelling.

Cala Murta

CALA MURTA

This spectacular S-shaped sea inlet is about 180 metres inland, ending in a semicircular beach where a torrent flows into it.

The beach of Cala Murta enjoys a crystalline seabed and offers one of the best views in the area, ideal for activities such as snorkelling and paddle surfing.

The cliffs form its margins, the right one being populated by a holm oak grove and the left one by the Cala Murta possessió (rural estate) and the Mare de Déu de Formentor oratory, enveloped by a pine grove. This land is owned by the Fundació Rotger-Villalonga, which, in collaboration with the Bishopric of Mallorca, uses this facility as a holiday camp. Gravel and sand make up the substratum of this semi-pristine beach.

The marine conditions make this stretch of sea an excellent place for anchoring boats, as it is very safe from north winds. The depth, on a bed of rock and seaweed, ranges between eight and four metres. Port de Pollença is 5.9 miles away.

The characteristics described above explain why there is a medium influx of bathers.

Playa de Formentor

PLAYA DE FORMENTOR

Cala Formentor, also known as Cala Pi de la Posada, is a large inlet inside which is located Cala Gentil, Platja de Formentor and the famous Hotel Formentor, which is protected by the islet Illa.

This kilometre-long and narrow sandy beach is made up of fine-grained sand of a luminous white colour.

The lush, dense forest of pines and holm oaks of the Formentor peninsula surrounds this beach. The branches of the trees almost touch the crystalline Mediterranean water that bathes this dreamy paradisiacal coastline.

The sea and underwater conditions are ideal for anchoring boats and for enjoying a wonderful day of sailing and snorkelling. The sandy seabed is at a depth of between 3 and 5 metres. Port de Pollença is 3.5 miles away. Renting a small, light boat without a licence will allow you to enjoy the most hidden spots.

The Hotel Formentor, built in 1931, is world famous for hosting illustrious artists and politicians, as well as for hosting events of worldwide repercussion such as the 6 Formentor forums held between 1999 and 2004, which brought together a multitude of heads of state.

A magnificent place was chosen for its location, a cove closed off to the south by the Illa islet, against a backdrop of pine trees and dense holm oaks and on the ground floor a beach where the pines seem to be overlooking the sea. Winston Churchill, John Wayne, Octavio Paz, Charlie Chaplin, Audrey Hepburn, Severo Ochoa, Laurence Olivier, Dalai Lama, Gary Cooper, Grace Kelly, Plácido Domingo and an endless list of famous people and world political leaders have passed through this establishment.

Torrent des Caló

TORRENT DES CALÓ

This wide sea inlet ends in a marvellous virgin beach, of small dimensions, where a torrent, whose sediments helped to originate it, flows into it.

Gravel and large pebbles form the substratum of this quiet slope, surrounded by limestone slopes lined with scrubland.

Located between Roja and Punta de l'Avançada, from here the military fortification of Fortalesa watches over this rocky area.

The maritime and underwater conditions only recommend access to anchor small, manageable boats, where it is ideal to rent a boat without a licence due to its size. Once in the area you can enjoy a wonderful unspoilt beach with very little traffic due to the difficulty of access on foot.

Snorkelling in the area is one of the most recommended experiences as there are crystal clear waters in the area.

A beautiful beach in a very pretty setting, next to the residential area of Mal Pas. Playa de Sant Joan is an extensive sandy beach of 250m in length with a somewhat circular shape, which provides calm and sheltered waters, of very light colours, with rocky areas and marine vegetation.

There is a lot of vegetation in the surroundings and from here you can enjoy the beauty of the bay with a clear view of the Formentor area on the other side. It is a fantastic place to spend a beautiful day at the beach on board a light and compact unlicensed boat.

It is frequented by both residents and tourists although it is not very crowded. The beach of Sant Joan is located near the Cocodrilo harbour where there is a sailing school and it is common to see small sailing boats steered by youngsters or children sailing in the vicinity. There is also a diving and marine activities centre nearby and it is common to see them on the beach.

There are sailing and diving schools as well as marina facilities.

S'Illot

S' ILLOT

S'Illot beach is located next to the port of Bonaire, in the middle of the Victoria peninsula.

This peninsula is named after the virgin that is venerated in the hermitage located on top of the watchtower.

It is a beautiful little cove of small pebbles with the attraction of the presence of an islet very close to it. The ideal access is undoubtedly by sea by renting a boat without a licence in Puerto de Pollensa.

The beach is made up of small pebbles, the sea is generally very calm and the presence of the islet prevents waves from coming in, making it a highly recommended beach for families with small children.

Its seabed is beautiful as it is made up of rocky areas, some sandy clearings, quite a lot of vegetation and numerous species of fish. We recommend that you wear a mask and flippers and venture around the islet to enjoy all the attraction of the area as it is a perfect place for snorkelling.
